Tout est là. Le Café Racer Tour tel que l'ont imaginé les T-boys, Guillaume, Alexandre et Benoit Tirard, n'est pas si éloigné que ça du concept originel et mythique du Café Racer. À savoir, se retrouver entre gens de bonnes fréquentations - des motards, quoi - dans un bar, avec des bécanes plutôt très bricolées, mettre de la musique de type Balance et Roule, et partir faire le tour du paté de maison en faisant plus ou moins la course et surtout beaucoup de bruit, et enfin boire des coups, toujours entre mêmes gens de bonnes fréquentations - entre motards, quoi.

Mais Guillaume, Alexandre et Benoit savent bien qu'on n'est plus dans les années soixante, donc exit la course, on garde ça pour des événements comme Iron Bikers. Par contre, tout le reste y est, dans le désordre mais tout y est bel et bien ! Rendez-vous devant la concession Royal Enfield Tendance Roadster à Levallois, un tour entre potes (à peine 200 motos) jusqu'à la Porte Dauphine, puis arrivée chez Laure et Thomas Chartier pour boire des coups (raisonnablement, on est en bécane quand même), écouter du rock live et se faire photographier sur la dernière Enfield. Éh ben elle était bien cool c'te p'tite soirée. Merci à tous !

This is the T-boys' success story (Guillaume, Alexandre and Benoit Tirard). They call it the Café Racer Tour and it's not that far from the initial concept from the sixties. Take a pack of good and tasteful people - motorcycle riders, of course - who'd meet in a cafe, insert a coin in the juke box, grab their bikes for a little noisy race around the block and try to get back (alive) before the end of the tune, and then share a drink and have a chat.

But Guillaume, Alexandre and Benoit know that the sixties are long time gone, so it's not about racing anymore. They keep that part for specific events such as Iron Bikers. Yet, for the rest, they've kept it all, only not in the same order. We met in the evening at their Royal Enfield dealership, Tendance Roadster (Levallois-Perret, Paris), we went for a one hour ride across Paris (we were just a few friends, I don't think that there were more than 200 bikes), and we all gathered at Laure and Thomas Chartier's restaurant to have a beer, listen to live rock'n roll and get photographed on a beautiful Royal Enfield Continental GT (that was my job). Well, it was a nice and quiet little evening. Thanks guys!

[FRA] MA VIE D'OCCASION

Depuis la révolution industrielle les humains ont produit une quantité astronomiquement phénoménale d'objets plus ou moins utiles. Je ne sais pas combien. Je ne sais pas si quelqu'un sait combien. Je ne sais pas si quelqu'un en à la moindre idée, même approximative. Enfin, toujours est il que cette planète recèle bien plus d'objets qu'il n'en est besoin. Et les humains continuent d'en produire. Il semblerait même que le rythme s'accélère. Je ne sais pas si je peux faire quoi que ce soit pour changer les choses. Je ne sais même pas si j'ai vraiment envie de juger cette situation, tant les réalisations humaines me fascinent. Par contre, j'éprouve (et je crois avoir toujours éprouvé) une attirance quasi magnétique pour les vieux trucs. Les objets usés, qui ont vécu mais qui peuvent tout à fait continuer de vivre. Plutôt que de les jeter, il faut juste leur accorder un peu de cerveau. J'ai pas envie de collectionner. Je veux que mes objets me servent. Et je crois qu'on peut tout à fait vivre comme ça. Vivre une vie d'occasion. J'ai pas envie de changer le monde, au contraire je pense que cette façon de vivre est très complémentaire. Il faut que le monde continue de produire et vendre du neuf pour générer de l'occasion. C'est un cycle économique viable, une pratique courante même, sauf qu'elle n'est pas bien reconnue.

J'aime que mes objets aient déjà eu une première vie et j'aime leur offrir la possibilité de continuer de vivre. Mon matériel photo est intégralement d'occasion, de même que ma moto, mes bottes, mes vélos, etc. etc. À part quelques objets sur lesquels je n'ai pas envie de faire de concéssion (mon casque, mes caleçons, ma brosse à dent…) Je vie une vie d'occasion. Une vie à chiner, une vie à chercher l'objet. Parce que je trouve que chercher, c'est tellement plus sympa que trouver.

[ENG] MY SECOND HAND LIFE

Since the industrial revolution, mankind has produced an amazingly impressively crazy amount of manufactured objects that are more or less useful. I don't know how many. I don't know if anyone knows how many. I don't know if anyone even has a clue about a mere approximation. Anyway, all I mean is that this planet houses way more objects than the whole humanity could ever need. And they humans keep making things. More and more things. I don't know if I can do something against this. I don't even know if I really want to judge this because it is so fascinating. What humans make talks so much about their intelligence (although the way they sell these things doesn't). I always loved old stuff, vintage stuff to use a trendy word. These things that have lived, things that may be used but are still able to be trusted and work just fine. I'm not a collector. I want to use my stuff. And I think one can definitely live this life. A life that's being supported by old, vintage, used, second or third hand, cars, bikes, cameras, lenses, boots, bicycles and all. Well, I'd still trust new items for some particular purposes. Like my helmet, my boxer shorts or my tooth brush.

Yep' I do believe I can live this life but I don't want to go hardcore. It's all about finding the right balance. To live this life, it takes a proper world of brand new stuff hitting the markets to keep going. Maybe just not that fast. It's about two world that coexist and make sense together. Some humans will live with the new stuff and some other, like me will love to look for their things at the flea market, because, in many situations, searching is a lot more fun than finding.

Attic Strip

Mathilde loves to lock herself up in the attic, dig all the old stuff from the metallic trunk and pretend she's some character from a film or a comic strip. Indeed, she is a character, and a playful one too.

Last spring, we went up there together. She had brought a whole set of clothes and shoes and shades … And I took my old comics, my paintball gun, some pillows and lots of cameras and lenses off course. The best of all is that we shot these pictures without any purpose. Just because Mathilde feels alright when she poses, and I feel alright when I shoot. So, that's how we spent the whole Saturday afternoon. Posing and shooting.

C'était en 2010. Je photographiais Momo et sa Boxer Lamborghini Design 1000 pour un magazine Indien, Business Standard Motoring.

Oh oui, j'imagine que vous la trouvez kitsch, comme ça à première vue. Hé bien pas moi. Bien au contraire. Et que croyez-vous qu'on pensera d'une Kawasaki Z1000 dans 25 ans ? Mais au delà des histoires de goûts et couleurs, il faut tout simplement la replacer dans son contexte historique… Se rappeler qu'elle a été pensée au milieu des années 80, que c'est une vrai Lamborghini, le seul croisement digne de ce nom entre le monde des supercars de grand luxe et celui de la moto. C'est une machine rarissime, construite à environ 40 exemplaires selon Thierry Henriette, son créateur.

Allez, quelques chiffres (et souvenez-vous qu'on est en 1987) :

It was in 2010. I was shooting my friend Momo and his Boxer Lamborghini Design 1000, on assignment for Indian automotive magazine Business Standard Motoring.

Yes, I know what you think. Just like that, at first glance, you find her ugly. Well, I don't. I even find her really beautiful. Besides, can you imagine what you'll think about a 2012 Kawasaki Z1000 in 25 years from now? Anyway, beyond these matters of personal taste, we should merely remember that she was created in the mid-eighties, she is a true Lamborghini product, the one only motorcycle that stands in the crossroad of high end supercars and two wheeled vehicles. She is rare. No one knows how many samples are still running, not even Thierry Henriette, her creator, who estimates that some 40 Lamborghini Design were made between 1986 and 1988.

42:46 is a danced show written by Virginie Andreu and Cyriaque Villemaux. Virginie is also the founder of the French production house Vaines Caves, which is specialized into dance and choreography. Virginie and I are friends and every once in a while we work together on some of her projects, or some of mine. So it is with great pleasure that I accepted to think about a poster and a flyer for her enigmatic project named 42:46. And there I am, poster above and flyer below. Thanks a lot, Virginie !

Alors plutôt que de s'offrir un spa ou une psychothérapie elle s'est lancé un petit challenge personnel sous la forme d'un Boudoir-Shoot. Questions. Discussion. Rendez-vous chez elle. Studio improvisé. Lumière soft. Timidité tamisée également répartie de part et d'autre de l'objectif. Nous sommes l'un et l'autre un peu mal à l'aise mais finalement Lili ose. Lili pose. Lili oublie. Lili se prélasse dans l'espace et le temps passe.
